How is the course assessed?

Current Assessment is a two-step process:

  • IG1 – An open book examination to assess what you know. This is scenario based and will include a closing interview, you will be asked questions about your submission.
  • IG2 – A practical risk assessment to assess what you can do (3 hours). Learners will complete a risk assessment and develop an action plan for their workplace – this is immediately useful and valuable.

Assessments are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH. These examiners are chosen for their experience and expertise to ensure that learners are assessed by the very best from our industry.

Upon successful completion of the course, candidates should be able to:

ü  Outline the scope and nature of occupational health and safety

ü  Understand key requirements for health and safety management systems

ü  Explain the principals and practice of risk assessment

ü  Outline the principals, purpose and role of active and reactive monitoring

ü  Explain the purpose of, and procedures for health and safety auditing

ü  Outline common health, welfare and work environment requirements in the workplace

ü  Explain the hazards and controls measures for assessing risks from manual handling

ü  Understand and explain the hazards and risks associated with the use of electricity and electrical tools in the workplace

ü  Outline the hazards, risk and control measures associated with chemical and biological substances

ü  Identify typical workplace hazards and develop suitable control measures

ü  Prepare management reports on health and safety improvements
